Bruce Thomas:
Bruce Thomas 's thirty year study of form and color has evolved into large brightly colored and water clear sculptures that move with the wind. The works of art reflect an inner interpretation of the mystical language of nature forms.
Thomas ' s paintings expand on this theme, encompassing the relationship of man, animal and landscape. " I 'm always looking for the spark of nonverbal communication."
Bruce ' s home and studio are in Palm Desert at the Aerie Art Garden. His Aerie Art Garden was aired on HGTV in episode #209 on "Secret Gardens". President of Art In Action Tours, he gives art programs and talks on "Creating Your Life As A Work Of Art" for many major corporations (IBM, Meryll Lynch) and art groups. This creative life stance can be seen in Thomas ’ work.
Bruce Thomas is the official artist for the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens Masters Tennis Tournament (2001-2003). You can see his work there as well as at the Aerie Art Garden Gallery and at the La Quinta Resort & Club. Bruce Thomas teaches plein air watercoloor at the Living Desert. His work is also featured in Watercolor Magazine, Fall 2002, page 8, an article about the Coachella Valley Watercolor Society Field Mice.
Bruce won the Coachella Valley Watercolor Society ' s Plein Air Painter of theYear 1996-1997. His large wild animal portraits contain the personal essence of each creature. The landscape paintings glow with the light and color of each particular location; whether it is Africa, Europe or the western desert. " Painting on location creates a special bond between artist and place," says Bruce. " Although some paintings are done in the studio, I love land and look for the distinctive characteristics of each location: the light, the mood, the color. I paint what it feels like to be there. "
His paintings have been seen in many exhibits, with one man show at the Coachella Valley Historical Museum, Safari Golf and Two Man Show at the Reserve.
Internationally recognized, Bruce's work is found in many major collections. Thomas received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Arizona. He studied sculpture and was on the faculty at Syracuse University.
